We have been teaching tuina workshops and promoting tuina to the public for many years.
In 2008 we started our first tuina certificated one year course.
The groups are kept small to ensure individual attention is given to each student. There is a maximum of 8 participants per course.
There are no specific entry requirements and suitability for the course the course is judged on an individual basis. In the past, participants have come from a broad range of backgrounds, for example we've had acupuncturists, tai qi teachers, Martial artists and even a postman.
| The theory and practical | 60 hours minimum (approx 12 monthly sessions) |
| The clinical element | 120 hours minimum (approx 30 weekly sessions) |
| Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM study) |
30 hours class 30 hours home study |
| Case histories | 10 cases to be taken with a minimum of four treatments per case history |
| Anatomy and Physiology | Distant learning |
The theory and practical elements of the course are taught once a month, usually a Sunday, in a classroom environment. Here you will have the opportunity to study the diagnostic principles and practise the hand techniques, routines and Qi aspects of tuina. These are hands-on lessons where you will be working in pairs throughout the day.
This takes place in our walk-in clinics. Here you are given the opportunity to practice the routines and hand techniques that were studied in Sunday classes. Most of your learning takes place in this practical environment as you will work alongside other senior tuina practitioners, picking up practical hints and tips that will enhance your study and practice.
120 hours are required to complete this module. This works out to approximately 30 sessions which are usually undertaken at weekly intervals. Places must be reserved in advance on a weekly basis and space is limited to 4 students per clinic to maintain maximum student to teacher ratio.
Note: If you are already a trained tuina practitioner but feel you lack confidence or clinical experience, you may apply to take this module in isolation.
This module has been designed for the non-TCM practitioner. You will be taught the concept of Qi, yin/yang and zang/fu theory, an introduction to the 5 elements and 8 principles, the locations and uses of the 12 meridians and commonly used acu/tuina points. You will also be taught the 10 questions to enable you to take a thorough case history.
